Laura Makinen

Artist Statement:

The basis of much of my work is the translation of photographs into paint and print. I am interested in the transformation that the images undergo, the changes that happen rather unconsciously, and the meanings that emerge from this process. When I take an image from the past and bring it into the present in a new form I feel like a time traveler of sorts. I am initiating a conversation between history and the present.
